Crafting/Gathering skills worth getting?

Brand new to order side of the server, curious about these. Are they fully working? Which is the best money maker/farmer? I remember being salvaging/talisman making on live, but green drops seem low. Pull 10-15 mobs and lucky to get 1 green it seems, not sure if this is normal.

They're worth getting. Anything you make yourself you don't have to buy.

Butchering probably gives the most $ for not even crafting and just selling the mats to vendor/on AH.

Cultivating + Apothecary can get you a little money selling pots but the market is pretty saturated.

If you get Tali making and get some purple frags you can make a real nice chunk of change selling those, but purples are few and far between unless you salvage influence gear with magical salvaging. And magical salving is easily the hardest and most costly gathering skills to level.

For me I took scavenging / Talisman making while I was lvling up to 35 or so. Then I switched to cultivating / apothecary. As you need more talismans and access to those as you level for new gear etc, and can sometimes sell good ones. Then once you hit T4 you switch to Cult / Apoth since you can do that while doing scenarios / ORvR etc as your need should shift to potions over talismans in the long run, then make an alt and set them up as salvager / talisman maker since a lvl 1 can do it :)

How do you skill up the level 1 for salvaging when your t4+ char will be getting 30+ items and success will be 0% until probably 150 ish skill... yes? This sounds like a great plan, I am just curious how to properly implement it. I am only 16, is it to late to start doing scavenging?

As I understand the salvage gathering profession can max even if you character is no where near that level. For salvaging you just break down lower level gear/shattered figurines from pq's to get your skill up. As your skill gets higher you need higher level items you can get them yourself, from the AH fellow guild mates. The point is it doesn't matter where you get the items from :) as long as you are getting gear funneled to you one way or the other it can be done.

You can do the same thing with cultivating. Just buy the level one seeds from the vendor as long as they mutate you can do the same thing.

As for Butchering/Scavenging you need to kill the mobs so it's a bit harder :P
