Saying Hello, as well as asking that annoying question...

Hey guys!

I'm FeistyDeity and I played this game all those years ago and like most of you, have very fond memories of it - which is why I got very excited when my brother told me this exists. :)

After WAR got shut down, I turned to other PvP-focused games. In the end, I sunk my teeth into Smite, where I got as far as becoming a Diamond/Masters player. However, I took up school again and I couldn't keep up with my previous competitive gaming schedule, so I decided to move to other games. Tried a couple of them out but was never truly satisfied.

So now I'm here and ready to get started - but before I get ahead of myself I DO feel the need to ask the following:

A little further research seems to point out that players have had mixed feelings when playing here - mainly because of an abundance of bugs. Now, most of those complaints seem to come from over a year ago - so it could well have improved by now (I hope). But if it's still hella bad, I'd like to know now. Because I want to start loving this game again, but if I keep on running into walls it's just going to be neverending frustration.

So two questions:

1. How buggy is the server?
2. If there's bugs but not that many - what can I do to "avoid" them? Like not playing a certain class (sorry, "career" ^^), that sort of thing...

Thanks for taking your time helping me out, and I hope to join the ranks soon! :D

The server is highly functional. Instead of gameplay bugs, it's mostly unfinished content that people run into and changes from live that you would have to parse through the patch notes to figure out. I think the most common issues are getting stuck in combat and being moved to Zone 0. To fix getting stuck in combat type .unlock, usually zone 0 is resolved by re-logging, but GM staff is around to help out as well.

Welcome back.

That's great to hear - then I hope I'll be back in this game by tonight! :)

Welcome back to WAR.

There are plenty things, that aren't implemented yet, like NPC pathing, NPC wallclipping and such things. PvE pretty much like 50% completed (playable in a working state) and you will encounter things like NPC frozen in places, only moving once you're in aggro-range, caster running into melee, NPCs not using skills at all, broken PQs.

PvP is in a more stable state, since it's the main-focus. Sure, there are still some bugs (like the mara-pull avoid with a simple jump - that should be fixed though), some minor, some major but overall it's in a state where you can play and enjoy your stay.

What you can't expect though is a stable gameplay in terms of balancing. Things will be tweaked, changed, fixed, redone, etc and sometimes other things might break because of that. Downtimes due to fixes, or crashes will be part of your stay. Usually they aren't lasting that long, but it may be a day, or as in the last weeks it's been like 3-4 weeks due to DDoS and Hosting-Change (and occuring trouble with that). But downtimes longer than a few hours are rare, usually.

At least that's my experience. Others might disagree, so let's hear them as well.

Yeah, let me just get this out of the way: I have zero interest in WAR's PvE. So that hardly matters. :D

Classes being occasionally broken is annoying, as are unpredictable downtimes, but I guess I'll find out just how much it gets in the way of my enjoyment. About 8 years ago in highschool, me and a couple of classmates played on a free WoW server (the biggest one, no idea what its name was) and stuff like that happened there too. It's a package deal - I was expecting much worse than what you're warning me for. :)

Welcome back laddie!
Have you made any thoughts on what side to pick? Just so I know whether to bring out a keg of ale or my rifle ;)

Hahaha, excellent! :D

I think my first character will probably be a remake of one of the characters I enjoyed most on the pay-client. :)

It could be any of KotBS, SH, Magus or IB - so I guess you can open that keg, but you should keep your gun cocked just in case. ;)

Off the map area, doesn't have a zone ID. When the client bugs out it sometimes will drop you there. Sometimes you fall endlessly, sometimes you're swimming, sometimes you can wander the bottom of the abyss.
