Veteran returning, has questions

Hey guys,

I played Warhammer Online alot, and was very sad when the servers were shut down.

I followed some other Warhammer Online-revival, but that didn't go well. It was very bugged and didn't work well.

This page got me curious when I searched for War private servers.

I know I can just download and see myself, but how fluent is the current state of the game?

I am from EU, and would really like to play some War Online again.

PS - Is this project legal?

I can only tell you that PvE quests/PQs are a little buggy but Devs are working almost everyday fixing things,Dungeons not out yet(There is a chance to see them in January-Check Dev Diary).

If PvE is buggy, how do you level up atm then?

And again, is this project legal, or is there a chance that this might be shut down due to copyright law? Would be sad to start this wonderful game up again, only to experience it being shut down another time.

This server has been launched by ex-worker of Mythic? that still had the game files to setup this private server and working on it again. In begin state he asked for helper (scripters) that want to help and rebuilding this game. Not sure if this is Legal but the project (or how they call it) so far is a great experience.

It takes time to fix but PVE in most state are fine, just of Chest Quest things are bugged. RvR is fine and works really really good.

RvR is in a really good state imho...and Devs are testing/tweaking things almost every week.
And PvE is not THAT buggy...you can do quests of course and level up.

We are not mythic, nor do we have any connection with Mythic or EA. Will we be shut down? Most likely not because we are small and no one cares about us.

PS - Is this project legal?

Answering this question is tricky .

According the server is based on nothing (no original sources of the old server : not a leaked server, nothing stolen) and the original game server doesn't exist anymore, yes it is legal (based on an opensource project). So the emulator is 100% legal yes. And no, there is no old mythic employee in the Ror/WarEmu story :p.

According we haven't any autorization to use the GW lore, it isn't. But as far we know, GW is aware of the existence of this project and tolerate it, as long as there is no commercial purpose (accept donation, cash shop...). So, unless we receive a notification from Games Workshop legal services, asking to stop we are here. This haven't happened since 2.5 years this project is up.

More personnaly, according most of us have bought this game long time ago (the client who contains the GW lore then), i suppose we are entitled to play with. If GW were contacting us, i would really glad to discuss with them and show them all the interest they could have to let this project continu and why not, give us facilities to develop it more efficiently ( isn't it the most interesting MMORPG of this century?? ).


In conclusion, let say we are in a "grey" area.

Though this may not be the Warhammer you exactly remember, in many ways it is better however (Our Dev team actually fixes things). It was a long a difficult process to get the game to the state it is in now, and almost everyone here will agree that it is pretty damn good.

If you loved this game for RvR and Scenario's, you will simply love it again. We have Dungeons and Fortresses to look forward to "soon" =)
