I had an Engineer back in live as my primary alt. I Liked all the gadgets and the very...dwarfy feel to them. I always felt like they lacked in stand up 1v1 fights though. Like running to a keep in a lake and a squig herder rides up and you two duke it out, I would almost always lose that fight. It felt like Engineers were support, even their damage felt like it was not meant to be taken into consideration on its own, but as part of a larger picture in the form of AOE dot pressure. I would usually do top 5 in total damage done in scenarios but the amount of kills I would actually get would be really poor.
Is Engineer still a utility damage dealer/healing negation through dots or can they manfight 1v1 with other classes?

Re: [Engineer] Returning player seeking Engi info
Depends on the fight, you're not going to beat everyone.
If a squig ran up to you, best drop your flame turret and crack shot asap. That will buy you some time to stack up the dodge/disrupt bonus while you're loading dots onto him. Check out the changes to turrets, Engi is pretty interesting and a legit threat these days.

Aye Engineer can beat some destros these days in 1vs1.
If you are jumped by an WE and you are really fast with pot, turret, keg you might even survive it with some knockback grenades.
But don't EVER think you can run behind a Squig Herder and shot.
The SH is still the king of 1vs1.
And if you see a Squiggy and a Shaman, DONT run behind them. It is a trap.
But apart from that Rifle Engineer is played a lot these days and can be really fun.
Team up with another Sniper, use 'Swift Assist' and kill Sorcs and other Squishies in one and a half rotation with your buddy.

Engi very good here atm. Also if you're in a tanky duel spec no SH should be a problem

Re: [Engineer] Returning player seeking Engi info
Thanks for all the info! Seems like Engineer has gotten some nice treatment since I last played. I remember turrets being useless except to self destruct them. Now they seem like an asset to you that you cant afford to ignore.
Re: [Engineer] Returning player seeking Engi info
Eheh yes ! Check engineer the workshop thread many engineer would answer all of your question !
Now it's the opposite self destruction is useless !

If destro retreats, run in them, port turret and then use self destruct.

But it is somewhat useless now in the classical Magnet pull cylce.

It used to be useful purely to give you a couple seconds to hit flee and run away. Or if you coordinated aoe and oil id plant it right on the other side of a door about to go down and pop it right as they tried to rush in. Theyd get stopped right under oil.

Yes that's what I was thinking : useless in magnet rotation.
But of course still usefull if destro try to run away , or if you need to escape . Still also good if you are in a bomb squad and let bw / slayer do the dps job
