New player, a message of thanks & some questions

Hi guys (and girls)!

First of all I'd like to thank the project team for putting this server together, man did it feel good yesterday to go into my first scenario since I stopped playing WAR a couple of years back! Loved that game and loving every minute on the server so far (T1 is very decently populated - and I play weird hours).

Now that thanks are over I am in need of advice :)

I don't have much time to play (2 h+ at night at most and half a day during the weekend maybe) and I know the game a little so I'd like to focus on a single character for once (that's hard for me...).

Here's the thing: I play from SEA so my ping is very high (I am somehow used to it by now), around 250-350 ms.

On retail I played AM, BO, WE, SC, SH, WP a decent amount and enjoyed most.
Yesterday I rolled a Mara and a BW. Both are lowbies but I have more success on the BW (easier to be ok at I think and I most likely play my Mara like a retard since I don't know the class at all - however the feeling is cool and fun).

I am currently thinking a tank could be decent even with high latency because usefulness relies mostly on group support, same for healer... and blowing stuff up as BW is quite easy but I remember the class is quite one dimensional and might get boring... Plus it is quite hard to solo any PvP encounter currently (I don't have much in the way of defensive abilities yet though).

So, long story short, considering the above, should I:

a) play my BW
b) learn to play the Mara
c) roll a BO (or any other tank really)
d) play a healer (suggestions?)

If there are any guilds that would have me also... More than happy to run through the game with some social interaction :).

All the best to you all

Welcome! The devs and GMs et al have done a great job with the game so far.

As for which class to play.. it's hard to say. I'm a big proponent of "play what you enjoy the most" - and it's OK if that changes after you level someone up and want to switch realms/classes. I will say that if you play a tank or healer, you're much more likely to find a group. See you out there!

Play the character that you think looks the best, then care about the mechanics later.

I don't know how much expirience you have as a healer, but i'll just throw it out there anyways.

Healing in PvP and PvE are two very different things with latency. While in PvE you usually learn the encounters and easily can get into a flow of rhythm with practice (of said encounter), latency isn't that much of a problem as you can get by. Your rhythm will just differ from someone with low latency.
PvP on the other hand is a whole different thing as reactive and well timed twitch healing is often times key here, the tide of battle may change at any moment. Thus latency plays a much bigger role here.

That's just some of my personal mmo expirience, and you're free (and encouraged) to still try it and see for yourself how it works out for you. Healing is great, and over the years i've found much joy in it both in PvE and PvP. But i'd like you to keep this in mind, as it might save you some frustration when getting into more high level pvp play later on depending how the latency works out for you.

As for healer suggestions, i'm having a great deal of fun with the experimental mode shaman right now. It's a mix of normal healing and healing via damage (lifetapping). You can check out what experimental mode is about here

Hope this was of some help to you, cheers~

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I indeed wanted to try a .ab ex Shaman and it's a lot of fun! I know i will indeed be penalized by my latency but at least it's not mdps where i think I'm in range but actually running way behind...

Playing life leeching is very cool indeed and solos very well. Plus those I'll Take That! crits heal a ton. Loving it!

Being here is glorious :) I'll try and spread the word, most likely one of the better PvP experiences available these days.

If anyone is playing some kind of DPS or tank from Oceania and low lvl let me know, usually on from 8-9pm or so Singapore time.

Sincerely,

WAAAAaaagh!
