Another Healer Thread - Need NEW Info

Hey all,

Just started on RoR last week and am loving it so much. I started up as a shaman after reading up as much as possible on the difference between the three healers. This is what I figured before starting.

Shaman - Best mobility, action power deprived, good for small group content/RvR
Zealot - King of healing, one trick pony, ugly.
DoK - Best group healing, lacks single target, ???

I'm only level 15 so tell me up front if things change later on. If I even get one witch hunter on me I'm dead, I can't run away, my Gork'll fix it, absorb, and HoTs cant keep up with a detaunted witch hunter, so what gives? I can't run away. Normally it's RIP if I don't get anyone to peel for me or heal me as well.

Secondly, I feel like my healing output is super limited by AP (That was known) and DoK's/Zealots are constantly doing 1.5 to 2x my healing in SCs. Yeah, I do have a green zapper DoT that is channeled - kinda cool.

Everyone has talked about some shaman nerf, what happened to them, am I doing something wrong? Do things change later on, and when?

I've been seeing DoKs and it looks like they kick ass. Are they pretty viable dps while still providing great support healing? Or do they normally need to choose dps or healing seperate from one another.

An unrelated note - I really wish mdps would assist eachother and not run miles deep into order groups in scenarios.

Right now Shaman is king. "RUN AWAY!" is amazing.

I think AM and Shaman WILL BE nerfed at some point because they are far too versatile. However I think a heal Shaman will always be a SOLID choice for any group - no matter what.
Sulfuras - Knight
Viskag - Chosen
Ashkandi - Swordmaster
Syzzle - Bright Wizard
Curz - Marauder
Andrithil - Blackguard

1.) Each healer has its niche and format it excels in.
2.) Resource management* becomes easier as you progress through the tiers and start building compositions, as well as unlocking more of your tools - duh.
3.) Sustain/defense comes from your group** and your positioning, AFTER that from your gear/toolkit/yadayada.
4.) Pick up a group***, learn your class - don't try to find a swiss-knife, you won't find it but much rather burn yourself out in the process.

Abbd.:
* Don't try to top everyone off, heal what is necessary to be healed. HoT people instead of throwing everything at them, if they aren't going to take damage - focus on healing people that are being focused/that are taking actual damage. Work on your general awareness/positioning.
** Even if you sport BiS and cookie-cutter netspec, if you are swarmed or otherwise assisted on ... well, if no one is coming to peel for you, you'll faceplant either way. Same goes for being (grossly) out of position, no amount of fanciness will help you - it'll just prolong the general suffering and postpone what is invetiable.
*** Your best bet is to find a group of lads you can rely on and coordinate with, makes the healing alot less stressful - ignore the **** that is flung into your very direction in pug SCs, keep in mind: good players won't be acting like spoiled brats or spam /sc - especially if they happen to solo queue -, so there's no reason to let the nonsense get to you.

Good to hear you guys think highly of shaman. I know its still early in the game.

Can someone portray to me what the playstyle of a DoK is like? In lieu of spending time leveling and seeing for myself I want to hear your guys' opinions. What do they do in T3/4 and how do they do it? Back line? Front line? melee?

Doks are front line, very high skill cap healers. Melee is very difficult to position and you'll be reliant oon a guard tank to really perform. They're beastly aoe healers
