[Slayer] Whats a dwarf to do.

Hi!

Preface: My only Warhammer experience is this server, so I don't know all the in's and out's but I do have some good friends who help me out. Just wanted to start a discussion really with those who play and or know slayers intimately. I know it will be a lot of opinions but hopefully we can get some cold hard facts. Really the knowledge Im lacking/ and or problems Im trying to figure out are, BiS/itemizing, Tactics, and specs and the inner workings of those three together in one.

Im currently RR 49 running Deft Defender 5,Opportunist 3 and leftovers usually to Weapon Skill/Toughness stat bonus.
Stats:
Str 997
Tough 104
Weapon Skill 604-43% Armor Pen.
Crit 12%
Parry, Dodge, Disrupt all between 26-30%

Gear:
3 Pc Conq
2 Pc Ruin, Shoulder Gloves
4 Pc Genesis
Beastlord Ring
2 T4 Infleunce Weapons
Cincture of the Brawler

Tactics:
Brute Force
Ancestral Inheritance
Wild Gambit
Push for More

I'd love to run Flanking though :(

Currently running far right AoE tree, because of the pressure it puts on other team and the fact that I dont believe Ive lost much ST dps.(Could be very wrong) Im happy with what Im running currently but just looking for discussion things you like or that have worked for you. Would love for those with expertise to weigh in. Impressions Im under are as follow, get yourself soft capped str, high armor pen, good crit all without gimping myself into a position of shredded paper compared to the glass I currently am. I plan on running full Conq and Genesis when I get last two items I think itll give me the highest crit/armor pen and give me decent off stats. Going for double SC weapons the 56.0 Dps ones once I have the emblems. But yeah bring your slayer knowledge here I love the class and wont give up on it. Just looking for advice from more seasoned players on strong specs, tactic pairing, and itemizing. Also MH fast speed/ OH Slow speed, is this correct in this game for a slayer?!?!?!

If you made it this far thanks for reading I do genuinly appreciate and hope to hear back from wheoever wants to contribute.

Used to main a slayer/choppa on live servers for quite a few years.

Most of the stuff you said is more or less relevant IMO but there are few things worth noticing. First of all it's generally thought to be a waste of points to invest renown into flat stats, especially if you're a slayer picking toughness.

If we're talking slayer/choppa defense that would be wounds, dodge/disrupt and parry. Armor or toughness won't do you much good cause you gotta stay red to kill something nowadays and your toughness has to be VERY high to make any noticeable impact on your survivability.

Capped strength and WS up to around 45%+ armor pen seems to be a must nowadays, apparently you're done with that.

You gotta accept the fact you're the squishiest guy around and there's not much you can do about that with the current state of things. You just need a proper group to cover your survivability. If you're the solo/pug type of a guy (like me) you should look into another class. But if you made it that far you probably know all of this well enough.

If we're talking group builds then I'd roll with smth like this. RoR.builders - Slayer (you can replace slaughter with flanking). Personally I think that Inevitable Doom works just as fine as a ST ability.

If I had a slayer at your RR now I'd run this with a 2h just for lols. The devs recently changed the mid tree crit tactic the way there's no penalty anymore. RoR.builders - Slayer

I have recently began to lvl a little my Slayer.

Generell Question:
I have seen that staying in Red is only viable if you have a group with heals and Guard ready. And both are supporting you.
But apart from that, is it more viable to burn your fury for the +75% damage bonus once you enter Fury, or when you have made some attacks in Fury?

Yeah Flatfoot I agree but usually after getting deft defender and Opportunist I have just left over points cant really rank up another str skill so I usually just splash em around I did the tough since Im so low with Wild Gambit. Once I have a little more str from gear Ill drop it and run Flanking. Glorian I stay red as much possible when grped but solo I throw it as fast I can. I just got a subjugator 2h so I think tmrw during the day Ill try a 2h build middle tree.

I play a different build atm than most would recommend. When I played in a WB and had healing / guard I ran RoR.builders - Slayer

However now that I'm no longer running in a WB/ Grp setup and primarily solo, I now run RoR.builders - Slayer

And I change it up between DW and 2h depending on how I feel. Also experimenting with builds so these are not final, just seeing how things go.

I'm also running a 80% haste setup (Oathstone of Karak x2 , Overloard Helmet, Conq Shoulders and AA tactic), 20% crit, Capped Str w/pot 1050-1060 depending on 2h or DW, WS 33-35% Armor Pent 467-480 (depending on DW or 2h)Parry is 18%, Dodge is 23$, Disrupt is 17%. Armor is 5 piece Conq, 1 Overlord. 2 Genesis Jewels, Genesis Cloak, Subj 2h or Subj DW + Bloodfist Inf axe.

That's a lot and most of it you will say is dumb lol, like I said playing with different builds.

My little suggestion is for you to forget that slayer has something like melee crit. Get your chance to be crit close to 0, get max parry, deft defender, and if you're running id build as I see, slot a few armor talis instead of ws ones.

I'm currently running this build
RoR.builders - Slayer
It's far from being top-notch-high-end-game but so far I like it a lot (and I'm guildless solo roamer that dies a lot :D)
For RR points I decided to use the one that gives the skill to cure ailments and stuff (sorry forgot the name :>), maxed deft defender, and rest in parry. I'm running full annihilator set (for now:D) and thanks to that I got +5% parry and skill to use in skaven slayer tree so it gives me access to all the skills I need.
I'm currently slotted with armor talis and lacking STR and WS but I want to fix it once I get my hands on different gear.

Now, why I've chosen this build and this skills:
ID - pretty obvious gives loads of dps, be it single target or aoe
SL - well, sometimes I happen to run in warbands and it's a must, the same applies for scenarios
Rampage - I don't know why but I don't see many slayers using it, I mean at red you can dump it for 20s of undefendable attacks, imo it's OP in parry-meta that the game has
Cleft in Twain - it gives nice DoT, dmg similair to single target ID. So if you can have 2 ID's on a target why not use it :)

And the skills I don't use and don't like:
Deep wound - sadly most healers can outheal me even with the debuff and I don't want to throw my deft defender/armor/parry to get boost my STR, probably would use that if I ran in regular warband but as I'm playing solo like 95% of the time I'm not taking that.
Yup sorry bois that counted on it (tbh most melees take heal debuff anyways :D)
Rune of Absorbtion - god how I love the description of that skill, it sounds great on paper, but the problem is it's very easy to counter. I don't like depending on an ability with 25s cooldown which can be interrupted (and as long as enemy knows at least a bit about slayers, they will interrupt it asap). I just run around with healing pots, preferably above 200 :)

Tactics - well, these tactics seems as a must, tho when I get my hands on Dominator set I want to drop Ancestral Inheritance for Violent Impacts and build like that RoR.builders - Slayer

Once again - I die more than I kill, but that's the way slayer works when playing solo, but with this build I have the versatility of running solo and in team with most of the useful stuff at hand.

No matter how hard I tried to stay away from slayers I ended up rolling one again.

Szejoza's build seems okay to me but why no Fierce Might? I view this tactic as an essential part of a slayer. Heck I'd even see it as either core tactic or even a built-in part of the zerk mechanic. It just fits the suicidal nature if both slayer and choppa so well. Unless you got a dedicated guard and a healer which is pretty rare.
Spoiler:
Fun fact: marauder's Growing Instability used to mirror this one until it was changed to a flat 50% crit increase. That was back on live. From my memory this is the point when marauders became a threat again and the tactic became pretty much mandatory.
As for Violent Impacts. I've never tried it but in theory it work as a Power Through alternative which won't get you killed as fast and will keep you in that sweet spot. Is it worth slotting?

I've always though of Rune of Absorption (aka Furious Choppin') as something must-have but that was back on live where quite a few people didn't know the animation so well (or didn't know how to interrupt). Nowadays it seems like a bad idea. Don't have it yet on my new slayer but with my choppa it helped me survive like 2 times out of 10.

It requires some major rework (well, the class needs some as well) imo but I'm not sure if I should post a proposal and induce the fury of the devs.

If it's not changed it has to be either a baseline skill or a 9-point ability. If it's changed then it should have a higher heal percentage or become magic-based imo.

Anyway, this time I'm probably going to build my slayer around Giantslayer tree with a 2h.
