Would a restricted faction-hop benefit the game?

I started playing only a couple weeks ago and because of that it might be too soon to get an accurate idea on how things are, but so far I didn't get the vibe of realm-pride one would have back in the day. I feel compelled to have one character on each side and log them based on what is going on in ORVR.

I also heard the random complaints about cross-faction players so I am curious to understand how popular this behaviour actually is.

If the game forced the players to commit to one faction, and only be able to swap once every 10 days or so, would this be an improvement? Would it bring more downsides than benefits? And would it be implementable, technically I mean?

What do you all think?

8 hours lock on second faction-hopping relog like on live and problem solved :)
But afaik it's hard to implement without client control

x-realming is just a pug problem. if you're a premade negative xrealming is a good thing for you : more kills.
the game would die if perma lockout exist imho.

It has been brought more times than there are active players

Short story - devs don't want to force players to enjoy only half of the game by asking them to play order OR destro

Long story - it's a free server, it's not a big deal to have 2 accounts, one for order and one for destro, that was limited by the subscribtion on live servers therefore making more 'realm-pride'. Also, the game is vast, not only in rvr, there are tons of fluff stuff for both sides, so if you want to get all from the game you will have at least one char per side of the conflict.
As for rvr and xrealming - it's players choice, and the latest change with personal loot addressed that issue on a quite a big scale, yes, there are xrealmer but it's their choice to have 2 mediocre chars than invest time in the one (except for nolife players that have enough time to max both :D ). I've seen people logging more to the underdog side recently so my wild guess is it works as intended, as the underdog have higher chance of getting better bags.

I myself have some realm pride and don't have chars above 15lvl on destro but I understand people that do. Also I'm treating the xrealmers as 3rd faction so it's easier to cope with the fact that there is always a group of people willing to switch sides at their whim.

What I hate tho are spies, people that are crashing WBs on purpose, lord reseters etc. But as long as it's a free server we will have to deal with people like that

Oh well, you see plenty roaming 6man in zones where their enemy has aao. :)
Dying is no option.

I have a couple of chars on each side because I genuinely like them. I swap between them based on how I feel.

Because rewards are based on contribution while spent in zone, swapping sides to be on the winning team right before a lock proves completely pointless. At this point, allowing players to choose side depending on a fluctuating current population allows for a more balanced population throughout the course of the day.

I'm actually not sure if the rewards are based on contribution while being in the zone. Not once in our warband day did i get anything more than a green bag. What we noticed, is that by the end of the session, order would usually have aao. Maybe not even huge aao, but it would be there. At the lock, I would see a text saying something like 'the enemy was too weak' or whatever, and your reward will suck because of that. It's what happened yesterday at least. Another worthless white bag for spending the entire night in one zone. Our wb got over 700 kills yesterday.

Maybe the game is secretly telling me to start playing alts

And xrealming to the weaker side actually seems to be rewarded, both in xp and bags. But it's kinda forcing you to play a side you maybe don't want to play...
