Warcamp buff really needed?

The warcamp buff is really insane. I don't understand why people afk near their warcamp should get wounds and other buffs. Twice I got killed by an afk KOTB with their On Your Guard hitting me for 3 x 4k in a row. Can someone explain why we have this wc buff?

Well it seems to serve its purpose i.e. deterring people from getting too close.

in some people can be safely killed right next to it, like destro Praag, Ostland or Avelorn

OK, but don't we already have L55 Champs to prevent people getting too close to the wc?

Could always go back to large guard patrols that do insane damage and make the lakes way smaller.
