[Sorc] Gear Advice (prep for RR40+)

Hiya. I'm slowly reaching RR40 with my regular rank trailing a few behind (35/38 atm) and I've been running into gearing doubts. I collected the full Devastator set but that's slowly being outdated. I did some PQs with a group and got a few pieces of Ruin but the set bonuses and stats overall seem very inferior to the overall benefits I get from Devastator. That said, I *could* be wrong, but I'm not sure.

I've read around and it seems past RR40, Onslaught is the dream (given its rarity), aside from eventualy BL and other high-end sets, but what about before that? Is Ruin really as bad as it seems? Mayhem seems to have good bonuses overall but rankwise it's a tier behind. I just want to find out what sort of direction I should be taking in gearing up as I reach the first steps of endgame. If it helps, I'm aiming to stick to my AoE spec. Thanks for any help.
