Understanding the friendly targeting bug

Hi,

I have been finding the friendly target bug really frustrating as a healer and the abuse you get from other players, because of it.

Can anyone maybe shed some light on when it happens or how to minimize it? Tab targeting maybe instead of click targeting, or is it just totally random?

To clarify I am talking about targeting a friendly player, the UI shows the player as targeted, but all friendly actions cast do not take affect or are cast on yourself. Sometimes I can clear the target and re-target and it is fixed, but other times not even that helps.

It results in many hate tells and abuse from other players when playing a healer and can be very demotivating.

Afaik this happens, when you cast on the friendly target while it is running out of line of sight. Even if the target gets back into LoS, you still cast on yourself until you deselect and select it again.

Thanks Luth. Understanding it is half the battle. At least know I can make sure I do not target anyone I dont have clear LoS of. I actually like to hide behind things and zoom out, so you can see past the side of the wall, target some one and strafe into LoS, spam some heals and then hide again before getting noticed when things go pear shaped. This tactic of mine sounds like it is my problem in some cases.

It is. U have to keep LoS all the time, if u loose it even for a milisecond, u cant heal that target. What i do when im in ur situation: target the closest one to the one i want to heal, come in LoS, circle friendly (you have in TAB, i have it in E ;) ), and normally, but not allways, it will move to the one i want to heal. Also, the "deal ur enemy X dmg and heal ur friendly X" skills do a good work here, not requiring LoS and not having that trouble to cast them on yourself.

Yes as says Ototo it is because of the LoS or range. To heal the target and not yourself, you must have targetted the player when you could see him and when he was not too far, if not, it will heal yourself.
Concerning the fact of loosing the LoS for a very short time, since last updates I have much less this problem. Now I rarely have the problem of healing myself and not other players, if I targetted them "well".

I just tested this on some players in the warcamp, but i had no LoS issues with healing. I think there shouldn't be any, as they had been fixed with last patch. Maybe it's something else.

In GoE this is common, also troublesome cause u can miss ur target in the many corners the scenario has, so then u are pissed. I dont think that the only 3 persons having this decided to answer this thread. LoS is a pivotal factor in healing, and if u fail to keep it continuous, u cant heal. U have to re-target. Not that is a big trouble, but is annoying.

I've had the LoS bug non stop today when doing GoE, purposely trying to avoid causing the stupid bug and still failing :x

The middle flag often cancels my heals in GoE as people run around the objective.

yep, any abilities with a cast time. it breaks LoS ..and clever folks use this to their advantage. ;) tho i haven't tried any channeled abilities on this, i imagine those break too. hmm...

i wasn't able to reliably reproduce the targeted healing bug tonight with a quick test in the wc, but still experienced it in both LoS and out of range situations since the last update. there certainly did seem to be days in which the problem was considerably worse, notably in SCs, but it could just be me or coincidence. every time i bust my m1 nut on myself with full health while watching my targeted mate die really bums me out.
