What exactly is an Exploit?

Hi all. I would like some clarification on exactly what falls under the category "Exploit". I feel like this term is very loosely wielded and misleading at best. What we as a player base need, is a clear set of rules and guidelines, because god forbid, we do something wrong we must get punished right? So, please tell us. What is wrong. What is right. How is it enforced. The other day i was being griefed, some witch elf was stealing my kills. I asked a GM, and they sayd nothing can be done. Ok, fine. When Tier 2 started i went out into Troll Country and started looking for Champions and Heroes. I love challenges. I like to test my limits, at all times. By no means am i someone who would use some kind of duplication bug to make myself filthy rich. So i found a few heroes, and me being a ranged class, i tried to kite them to death. I am a very good kiter, and since the run speed of heroes is not fast enough to catch me while i strafe wide circles and dot, they died. If i made one small mistake with making a circle, i died. Anyway, it felt good to overcome this challenge, and they rewarded me with loot. Too much loot? Perhaps, the respawn timer being too quick.....but i can tell you the only Woe / Rune Scribed gear i got, was not from heroes but from regular monsters in IC. Or from trades. So Heroes were not supposed to be solo'd / kited? Then why not increase their run speed. Increase spawn times. Why punish people for something like this when you can just say, okay it wasn't supposed to be like it is, lets get a quick hotfix in and that's it. I think it was a rash decision to wipe Woe and Rune scribed from ALL players. Im pretty sure 95% of all those blues and purples came from regular monsters. Now people can say, omg so u were one of those pricks that caused the wipe. No, i am not a prick. I just kill monsters, and players. I play the game as it was designed and i never give grief to anyone. So i will ask again. Am i an EXPLOITER (derisive tone) because i am able to kite a hero to death? Or maybe i am just a good kiter?

Hello.

That is a wall of text.

If you're worried you're doing something that could be considered exploiting, you've probably already crossed that line. Being able to kite a Hero level mob would take a lot of skill, and there's risk involved as you've explained, of being killed in a single blow. However, consider the intent of the gameplay design. Hero level mobs are intended to be taken on with a full group, if not more, of well geared players. Being able to solo one goes against the intent, albeit in a clever and skilled manner.

You're probably exploiting.

If i remember correctly the mobs on live were as fast as the player or a bit faster so you had to use flee to get away.

I could be wrong.

I do vividly recall a patch where they buffed movespeed of mobs. I was playing a SW as well, and was quite good at kiting. Not after that patch, and never again.

On the other hand, it was also the patch I discovered Armor runes stacking with their assault stance, and went full melee SW. Then the next patch they nerfed armor runes and my WAR rollercoaster continued.

Everything I ever do
Every place I've ever been
Everywhere I'm going to
It's a sin.

Fortunately wipes will purge our souls again and again to teach us and make us better.

Mobs were definately faster than the players regular movement speed. Slower than mounted though and slower than regular when snared.

Likely regular mob speed was 1.1. Some specific npcs were faster though for certain fight mechanics.

I think there was an itiem wipe due to inccorrect drop chance(was too high) not by kite + killing hero, cos atm no one is able to kill hero just by tank it......

Exploiting is considered as abusing a bug or unintended aspect of the game to significant profit.

We count in the same general vein abusing mechanics which you know are incorrect when compared to the live server, when these are obviously to your own massive benefit (example: farming heroes on cooldown and their own ridiculous respawn rate.)

I note that issues which negatively affect players or classes are reported with extreme speed, yet it seems beneficial issues are fair game to be exploited, or, worse, we're blamed for creating them.

It can't be like that.

Then you obviously did not put in enough effort to find out how that works. Because it does.
