Doesn’t necessarily have to be the best, just fun. I started the game a few days ago and have been having trouble figuring out what I want to play.
I’ve tried Black Orc and gotten to level 10 through PvE (because I’m playing because of the lore and setting more than the PvP gameplay) but what is expected of a Tank to do sounds a bit daunting and if I ever feel like PvP I don’t want to be useless.
If there are any fun/unique builds for classes for just running around I’d love to hear them. Most of the stuff I found on the forums through Google were a few years old or didn’t make much sense to my newbie brain.null

Re: What’s a fun solo class?
I personally really enjoy solo chosen for destro, for order I liked what ive played of Sword master
Re: What’s a fun solo class?
most tanks do a great job a soloing, but order knight is the one that struggles the most of any tank atm, said that order has SM/IB which are the best solo tanks for roaming, Chosen is on that lvl (very strong at melee) but will struggle as any tank against ranged kiting and infinite snares... IB just have the best tactics in the game of any tank, strongest hp regen and infinite buffs, SM has spirit dmg as chosen with greater dmg output, good regen and very nice 2h utility and channels (both of them have a m1 to catch ranged).
BO is fun when geared and can do a lot of dmg but is the one that suffers the most against ranged and order has an army of them also is hard against witch hunters 100%parry... still BO has the best emotes and just feels great to play.

Also just want to encourage you (and anybody else who is thinking of playing a tank) not to be to worried about "what is expected" of a tank in PvP. It boils down to mostly challenge and guard swapping. Most everything else on top of that is gravy from the rest of the population's perspective.
Quite frankly, from a general PVE-er perspective most of the gen pop would expect far more from a tank in other games than they do here i.e. know the dungeon and all the boss moves and adds and what have you.
I find tanking in PvP here to be way more relaxing than any other trinity PVE game.

Very profound, even the watered down dungeons here give me ptsd about tanking in pure pve games.Aethilmar wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 10:13 pm Also just want to encourage you (and anybody else who is thinking of playing a tank) not to be to worried about "what is expected" of a tank in PvP. Re: What’s a fun solo class?
Tank solo roaming hierarchy imho is : Chosen->/SM/IB/BG->BO/Knight. As for the IB ''best'' tactics these only applies to SnB IB spec compared to other SnB tanks. 2-hand version does not have better tactics than the other classes but worse yet : it needs to waste an entire tactic slot to enabling grudge class mechanics (BG gets this for free) meaning it only has 3 tactics to pick from in practice.diegomess wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 9:36 pm most tanks do a great job a soloing, but order knight is the one that struggles the most of any tank atm, said that order has SM/IB which are the best solo tanks for roaming, Chosen is on that lvl (very strong at melee) but will struggle as any tank against ranged kiting and infinite snares... regen is the meta for solo roaming guess what classes have a better build for this? SM tactic and IB op regen skill, same as BG and BO.Farrul wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:54 amTank solo roaming hierarchy imho is : Chosen->/SM/IB/BG->BO/Knight. IB has tactics for reduced snare times, KD timer, armor if needed, where in game can you get something like this? nowhere... when you solo you find out the snares, KD are the most annoying thing in this game and you eventually get killed because of it. also m1 to catch ranged

Re: What’s a fun solo class?
Well first of all IB Healing(I guess BG heal is mirror in mechanics) is not as OP as you may think, unlike(!) regen from items it's affected by healing debuffs - The duration of 30 sec is also problematic if you rely too much on it, cooldown is 1 minute long so there is a vulnerable downtime period to it unlike regen from gear/tactics/aura that can have a 100% uptime.diegomess wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:34 pmregen is the meta for solo roaming guess what classes have a better build for this? To have it you either sacrifice Greataxe mastery tactic or Runic shield/Punish knock, alternatively near 1k hp from the alt Sov set to gain +2 from WL. Finally it consumes precious grudge resources nerfing your dps output or if caught in a bad stun with low resources you could lose the effect, unfortunately IB grudge regen is underpowered compared to a BG hate regen so needs be careful when utilizing it.
As for SM tactics they are individually worse than Chosen/Knight regen aura, SM need to proc them attacking and so if being kited(Goblins) they won't be active at all, the aura procs from being attacked so the regen is active vs a kiter (as you already know, kiter is the bane of tank solo roaming).
A final point on regen, it works only as good as you mitigate damage. Chosen being passive tankier than Swordmaster is better at preserving the regen he has + a better uptime with regen aura compared to SM tactics.
IB has due to the requirement of Rising Anger which is mandatory for class resources to function only 3 tactics to utilize in effect, so it's likely going to be Rugged/Sweet Revenge and the final one being Punishing Knock/Greataxe mastery. However i agree with you that IB has got some of the best tactics but utilizing them in a practical sense is a completely different story than theorycrafting.
Re: What’s a fun solo class?
yea i agree SM/BO has a hard time procing the heal against ranged thats true, still it heals for way more than the heal aura, that aura heals for so low that is not necessary, also dodge and disrupt against ranged is still hard to do for a 2h so the aura wont proc that often.Farrul wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 6:20 pmWell first of all IB Healing(I guess BG heal is mirror in mechanics) is not as OP as you may think, unlike(!) regen from items it's affected by healing debuffs - The duration of 30 sec is also problematic if you rely too much on it, cooldown is 1 minute long so there is a vulnerable downtime period to it unlike regen from gear/tactics/aura that can have a 100% uptime.diegomess wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:34 pmregen is the meta for solo roaming guess what classes have a better build for this? IB regen is basically a strong pot every minute and stacks with them, is insane it cant be shattered somehow... i dont think they even need that ability to make a regen build work same as rugged tactic, BG may have a quicker way to use this often, but IB is tankier than a BG with infinite self buffs is better at preserving the regen.
there is also the fact that one of the best solo roaming weapons for any tank ( sentinel 2h that steals hp ) chosen has the weakest version of them all, fast speed, no str and lots of weapon skill chosen dont need... is a minor complain but is there.
I agree that 2h regen chosen is one of the strongest melee cuz they have beefy stats and nice parry but chosen str scales so low u will always do pretty much the same dmg with any build, but damn i think SM can pull it off as well, i have seen very offensive ones that just melt tanks... and well IB/BG is pretty much cheating with healing pot every min, all of the trees they have are so good
