Get a lot of different answers in game, google of course pulls up all kinds of varying answers, and the wikis seem to have been abandoned a week after the game came out. And it may work differently on this server in particular, may have to test or get an answer straight from the devs to get a clear answer regardless.
How does weapon dps modify ability damage for non-casters, compared to strength/power?
How does dual wielding effect this? Is only the MH used? or is it a combination of both MH and OH?

Re: Weapon DPS and abilities
10 strength = 1 dps. Mh does normal damage, off hand does 75%, at least that's how it wss. I'm at work right now so can't really do a better job of explaining it.

so 1 str is 0.2 ability dps, and I think 0.1 auto attack dps?magter3001 wrote:10 strength = 1 dps. Mh does normal damage, off hand does 75%, at least that's how it wss. I'm at work right now so can't really do a better job of explaining it.
But how much ability dps is 1 weapon dps?
For instance mara gets a weapon w/ 20 dps and 52 str. Would a 25 dps weapon with no str on it be better in terms of ability dps?

Re: Weapon DPS and abilities
Weapon DPS is exactly what it says on the tin: Damage per second contributed by your weapon.
On melee attacks, the interval is the GCD, so you get Weapon DPS * 1.5 on them.
On auto attacks, the interval is the weapon's swing interval, so it's Weapon DPS * that.
On abilities that respect the offhand, you receive Weapon DPS * 0.46 * 1.5.
On the auto attack, the formula is more complicated. The net result is that the offhand contributes 46% of its DPS to your sustained AA damage output.
This setup ensures that the DPS of dual wielding two same-level weapons is the same as using a two-hander.

Re: Weapon DPS and abilities
Yeah, 1 strength should be .2 ability dps. 1 Weapon dps, if I recall correctly gives 1 auto attack and 1 ability dps though it has been 4 years or more since I did the math on it. Will probably test it when I get home.Jaycub wrote:so 1 str is 0.2 ability dps, and I think 0.1 auto attack dps?magter3001 wrote:10 strength = 1 dps. Re: Weapon DPS and abilities
so essentially 1 weapon dps is comparable to 15 strength? In terms of the amount of extra dps you would receive on an ability.Azarael wrote: On melee attacks, the interval is the GCD, so you get Weapon DPS * 1.5 on them.

Re: Weapon DPS and abilities
No, it's comparable to 5 Strength on an ability and 10 Strength on the auto attack.

This will be a nice guideline when comparing weapons, which is I think why most people ask the question.
