New player - Getting started

Hi,

NA region, new dad (not a lot of play time)

Best class? Best faction?

Is pve solo leveling still possible? That’s probably me.

Anyone recommend any good guilds to join and learn?

Any tips or tricks to pass on to new players?

Hey, welcome to the battlefield!

I'm an EU player, so I'm not sure what the status of the game is during NA time, but I'll try to answer your questions in a general way:

Best class? Best faction?
I'd say there's neither one singular best class, nor is there a best faction. Classes all fulfill different roles and within those roles some specialize on raw power while others bring helpful utility. That's why I would recommend to just look at all the different classes, try those that you like the sound/look of, and stick to those that you like playing. Generally, tanks and healers are more in demand than dps with tanks being (on average) more sought after (at least on Order side). Regarding the two factions: it's constantly changing which side is on top, and it's heavily affected by the time zone you're playing in and the presence of organized (guild) warbands in open RvR / organized premades in scenarios. Therefore, it changes over the course of one day, during the week, and from month to month.

Is pve solo leveling still possible?
It is possible, but I wouldn't recommend it since you lose out on renown. You can level by fighting other players in open RVR and/or instanced scenarios.

Anyone recommend any good guilds to join and learn?
You can find guilds advertisments here on the forum as well as on the RoR Discord server (and in the in game chat of course). I'm not sure which guilds are currently active during NA time.

Any tips or tricks to pass on to new players?
The wiki is a very helpful resource. You can get addons here. For a start, I'd recommend State of the Realm (SoR) to know where the RvR action is. There are specific channels (#addon-support, #gameplay-advice, #technical-advice) on the RoR Discord for different kinds of questions about the game, and you'll get good answers there about all kinds of issues/questions.

NA right now is running around 200-300 players so you have maybe 1 org wb and then a pug or small groups in rvr. Lots of solo gank stealth classes. Join a guild, don't wander alone or you'll be discouraged. Scenarios and pve instances are hard to come by.

If you can play at least a little time during the day on the weekends to get more sc pops and instance groups (when you hit 40 this is a good way to gear up and save crests). Try to level through a combo of rvr and scenarios to be at least rr 50 when you hit 40. Try a few classes in T1, it's fun and you will get a decent feel of if you like the playstyle by the time you graduate to mid tier.

I'm liking small group play as the underdog the most right now, of which all classes are viable.
Agree with all the advice above.
