Idea for helping with lag
Idea for helping with lag
I'v had this idea for a while and it seems now might be a good time to do something like this. What if each area where hosted on its own server. Then you could host T1 areas on one server and T2 areas on another. When we get to T3 each area could be its own server and we can move less used areas to the other servers. I can offer a server to run an area. If this is done, I recommend a VPN that I could setup between all the servers. Keeping each instance server software from being online besides the port used to connect the client when porting between areas.

Re: Idea for helping with lag
then the devs would have the constant and tedious work of having to transfer a bajillion toons after they out level each tier right?

Re: Idea for helping with lag
still need to share the same database, and the database is the problem.

Re: Idea for helping with lag
The lag is mainly caused by the Amount of People in _one_ zone. The more people are clustered together the heavier the lags get (exponentially growth with player numbers for packet sending). So it would make literally no difference for you to have each zone on another Server if there arent a lot of players in other zones anyways. So generally the server can handle 3 zones á 100 players better than 1 zone with 300. So to put it in other words. Your server would also break down if there were 300+ people at one cluster fighting there.
So afaik: before anything like that can be considered there need to be some structural revamps in packet mechanics from the server/emu.

noisestorm,
It would help all the other zones from lagging.
and the server has about 500 to 750 person lag before it starts to max. Can't tell me 750 per zone wouldnt be better.
It would help all the other zones from lagging.

Re: Idea for helping with lag
i dont think the coding structure does support this, its not that of an easy task. (or mythic would have done it in the first place).
I rather hope that server infrastructure went ahead A LOT the last 10 years, and we now have technology to make this thing work.

Re: Idea for helping with lag
If the opcode that handles porting to an area includes an IP for the world server then it will work.
Re: Idea for helping with lag
yes but wouldnt that be the FIRST choice mythic had, putting at least the cities and the scenarios on a seperate server so they dont lag out when there are big battles in the zones?

Re: Idea for helping with lag
the solution to the lag problem would be to spread playerbase. Open two zones for cap/defence, give a fat defence bonus for successfuly defending a keep. I know one faction will be there and another will be there, but you are playing this game because you wanna fight right?
It's not an optimal fix, but it will handle the problems we're currently having without too much work.

Re: Idea for helping with lag
its everytime there is too many people in one zone (always during t2 keep sieges with huge zergs either side), the devs already know this but how to solve the issue other than diluting the playbase over more tiers and zones is another story.
