There won't be an 'official' server for warhammer...they closed down. Also the approach of keeping it open source, stops one server potentially charging a subscription or something for people to play. It also allows anyone to contribute and fix bugs.

War-emu is the open source code. This is Return of Reckoning. A completely different project to War-emu.

War-emu is still open source and available for anyone to download and create their own private server. The repository is not been updated since May (hence the statement you read dating from May).
