[Suggestion] "Guard Damage Taken" as a new Scenario "stat"?

Ill keep it short. Right now we have some FUN stats at the end of every SC. Total damage, DBs, healing, kills, deaths etc etc.

All of that is GREAT however it seems there is a class that gets "left out" of being able to participate in this fun. Tanks.

For a long time I have tried to think, "DPS, deals damage... Healers, heal.... Tanks just guard players.... So how can we show a stat that will show the impact of a tank playing properly?"

I would really like to suggest - and I dont know if its even possible? To show a column that shows "guard damage taken" OR some form of this... Basically showing the real impact of a tank in the group.

This actually has multiple benefits. I think its promotes true tank builds as you will really be able to see the true value of a good tank. It also allows tanks to feel like they provide a visible benefit to the group that can be MEASURED at the end of an SC.

It will promote "guard swapping" to classes getting focused, it also gives you a gauge on measuring/comparing two different tanks as well.

I really feel this would add a "value" component, where MDPS would even more respect their tank friends, and finally tanks could get some recognition if at the end of an SC you see they "guarded" 100k+ damage... they were a HUGE reason why that team won, and that the MDPS who did 200k+ damage, didnt just carry the team cause hes "Uber leet deeps bro!"

Would take a third party addon supported by a custom channel on the server. Not impossible but work.

One of the best skills to learn for a player wanting to be a "good" tank is to close the scoreboard without looking at it. If you want top damage roll a magus. Score boards are just an abstract. Even if there is "damage taken" still doesn't mean all to much, because of what NotWingz said.

Tank's job is not to take damage, it's to mitigate it, guard, immac, Distracting Bellow, Challange, CC, snares etc. are all ways of stopping damage from reaching it's full potential. There is no real way of reporting on damage prevented.

You want to "show off" how awesome you are as at Guard Floating, get an add-on announcing in shout when you do it. Or when you Challange...etc. The scoreboard is a poor teacher, spoiling players to think they are special because they can bring big numbers, rather than offering any kind of helpful feedback.

Actually, on live I went by RR earned as a proxy for performance on my tank. The more players I had buffed or debuffed the more RR I got. It was far from perfect but then again, raw DPS or healing is an imperfect measure of those archetypes.

I think you mis-judge my personal intentions here. The goal would be to add fun to the game, that seems to me to be why we have those stats in the first place?

I see "PUGS" try to compare/judge the score board all the time. While I personally DONT use it to measure anything, a PUG "bomb" BW for instance may not think anything is wrong with his spec in SC because he gets 100k+ damage in every game he plays but never has any DBs, and never "REALLY" contributed towards the focused kills, rather just bombed the front line.

So clearly I understand a disconnect between the scoreboard and REAL impact. My goal here, besides fun, was to have a measurable impact for "PUG tanks" who now have something to "focus" on.

So that instead of me seeing in /Scenario chat or public chat "Why are our tanks not guarding anyone".... You are less likely to see that since it will be much easier to call that tank out for NOT guarding. In the same way, if someone is a heal spec healer but only get 10k heals in an SC... you call them out and ask why they arent healing players...

I think it adds more transparency that would ENCOURAGE team play more, so you are helping the PUG teams play more coordinated which inevitably leads to better group play and more fun SCs.

Its just a way to try and help provide that layer of transparency to "gauge" your effectiveness. I know me personally, when I FIRST joined the game, I didnt realize how short guard distance was... I thought it was MUCH larger and kept thinking I had people guarded when I didnt...

Fair points... Most of that damage will be blocked or parried... Could turn this concept into "guarded damage" which would merely measure the damage that was split between you and X player(s), which then would be regardless of block or parry...

Damage soaked, damage negated might be good.

Exactly, if you actually soak damage you don't have enough avoidance.

Alos, just to let you know, a Chosen's stat is amount of medallions he receives.
Word of Pain and Boiling Blood are no longer able to proc anything. The Bright Wizard College has confirmed this is a big deal. (stealth nerf)

I think it was SWTOR hat shows Damage taken after the "SC"? Sorry I only played SWTOR for a few betas plus first 6 months up til they went Free2Play.

I personally dont care if I have a metric to look at and gloat over. When Im in our premades, my job is to stick to my DPS and intelligent use of Utilities.

At the end of the day, I simply laugh when someone tries to trash talk my DPS
