I don't expect instant updates from the admin, for a private server with a volunteer staff that is well beyond reasonable expectations. I am very grateful to play this game for free. I just think that people chatting about the server status in lieu of an official announcement should be fine so people can know right away that it is not an issue on their end. If that is clogging up the forums, then I will look into using the IRC whenever I am having connectivity issues, but I know many people prefer forums :)

It's either offline or online, with possible information of when it's gonna be back on when offline. If the community "needs" a topic to ask whether it's online or not, it defeats the whole purpose of a topic in relation to the server status.

Either way, it's babysitting for moderators. Only, this way, we don't have to moderate a forum topic that will be 99^ full of pointless information and more often than not, some flaming/insulting which then leads to countless reports and PMs from people demanding us to punish them for their insults.

Maybe because they have lives and do not moniter the server 24/7. Bloody hell, they are people too.

They apparently have time to go and lock threads about the subject.

Incorrect.

Topic is updated as soon as a member of staff can. Then topics are locked.

Could just let someone make a topic about that for the community and the GMs don't have to monitor it. Let the shitposting pile up and the complaints that come from it be ignored.

As a lesson learner.
