Light armor mdps (wh/we) abilities

Snare/root remove + immunity Sigil Of Sigmar
Stealth Incognito
Range snare with positional req. Snap Shot

Medium armor mDPS abilities

Slayer/Choppa/Mara/WL:
Snare/root remove + immunity Charge!
Runspeed buff Pack Assault

Mara/WL:
Range pull with pet Fetch!
Range pull Terribad Embrace
M1 Ensnare

Mara:
100 feet range kd with disrupt req. Mutated Energy
Frontal ae kd: Concussive Jolt

WL:
Pounce

Tanks
Snare/root remove without immunity Juggernaut
M1 with self-root Champion's Challenge

MDPS are very good rDPS hunters, but tanks are no rDPS hunters per design. High block/disturb/dodge values should help somewhat, to avoid getting CC very frequently. Some melee classes have also medium range aoe snares (slayer, choppa, ib, bg, bo).

Edit: forgot to mention the special range kd the mara has...

Cast time abilities don't suffer from setback, so maybe it seems that way to tanks.

I forgot to mention the runspeed-proc talismans. Every class has access to them, but the speed-proc breaks on ability use, so melee classes profit far more from it (rDPS/healers need to use abilities while kiting).

on the whole I'd say no, but it really comes down to career mechanics more so then archetypes.

comparing an engi to say a slayer, the slayer is the far better dps'er.

Better burst, better sustain, better debuffs / utilities.

But comparing a BW to a Slayer that's a whole different argument.

Heck even comparing MDPS at endgame can be tricky. SL used to get much more play than WH in premades / warbands.

I've always seen it as coming down to the core mechanics more than anything else.

But the biggest advantage is that melee can dps and move, and the have access to autoattack while they use other abilities.

If your a rdps and you use your main abilities which have 1-2s cast times your immobile, you suffer setback, and you lose your autoattack (if your prdps) So if your enemy is moving or if you are moving you lose a lot of dps.

Dot's use to make up for that, until cleansing got buffed.

But the big thing is mechanics, you can't compare turrets / daemons, or even squigs / stances to combustion.

Some careers have good mechanics that scale well with level, others have okay mechanics, and some have crappy mechanics that work well at low level, but don't scale well as they level.
