life leech max range

Appearently life leech has a max range now. This is somewhat annoying, cause while you can still target the player you want to heal, he gets no heal at all.
I get that life leech should have a max range, but would it then possible to make players that are outside of this max range not targetable?

After short test the range seems to be 300-320 ft (it actually feels more in pvp). Intended hidden change?
Can you make it impossible to target friendly players at further range?

If it has a max range, I didn't add it.

If I may add a suggestion:
Why dont we set the range to friendly player render distance (wasnt it around 300 to 400 ft anyway). It would fix this Issue without adding too much range to the spell.

Thanks for your answer. With old .ab ex mode balance essence had no real max range. It was only limited by the range you can select a friendly target (around 850ft). While I rarely rely on balance essence after removal of old ab ex mode, I am 90% sure it had the same range until the recent changes to AM/sham. Maybe someone else could also test it, if I did a mistake?

Lowering the max range of balance essence is per se a good thing, but its annoying that you can select a friendly target that gets hit with the intend to heal it and it gets no heal at all.

This may be related to the forceful clearing of target that I did some time ago, though Im pretty sure I set it to slightly larger then what client shows.

That fix was to prevent you having a target that you did not really have (if you ever emoted for example and it did it to someone you did not have as target).

Can you please describe in more detail how you get this to trigger? As in how far away you are from someone when it happens and such details.

If this is an accidental change, it is a good one. With the increased effectiveness of lifetaps they need a range. You couldn't keep overextending dps up with them before. You can now.

Thanks Natherul. I think you are correct.

I started a thread in the past about how balance essence worked at that time viewtopic.php?f=8&t=21535
It also worked this way for some time after removal of .ab ex mode (I tried life leech some month ago). Means when you select your defensive target with hotkeys (max range for this around 850ft) your defensive target will always get the healing from balance essence.

What I didn´t recognised on my recent tests (shame on me  ), that while you visually have your defensive target selected (shown in standard ui), you actually have targeted yourself/it switches to yourself if your defensive target is at a certain distance (around 320ft). Means the healing isnt lost, but goes to yourself. But you only see this in combat log, The UI shows your selected defensive target.

So yes, I think it is related to your changes. Problem is, the forceful clearing of target isn´t shown in UI. should it?

The idea is to ensure that when your out of range and the client shows no target the same should be applied to the server as well.
Can you please contact me on discord. Id like some additional feedback that I feel chat is better for.
