The free kill talk is vague, some stats translate better than others: tanks have the worst with the bolster(regarding avoidance and def tactics) offensive classes the best(due raw stats get better results which can cover for the loss too of some off tactics.
Just a value which feel better than flag holding would be fine.

How about basing it on bolstered total stats for bolstered playres instead of renown rank. Then you would differentiate on the geared bolstered aka "not-free-kills" and the non geared bolstered players aka the "free kills". Then it depends more on player skill, risk vs reward.

Attacking lowlvls is medium risk and very low reward.
Dying is no option.

I don't think it's fair to paint with a broad brush that they are simply easy kill, while on the other hand I see when suggestions to improve bolster are made, it's argued it is already very powerful if gear is kept up etc.(which is quite easy to do and also true). I feel there is an argument to be made that some kind of risk vs reward should come into play.
It should have some kind of scale or factor added in due to the fact some are obviously new players, and easy kills. A lot on the other hand are alts and people who know how to use bolster effectively. I've had harder time against some bolstered players than on lv40 chars. And occasionally had very difficult time in SC against bolstered players of certain classes who obviously know what they are doing
Obviously this also depends on the class dynamics and not arguing about that here, but if you 1v1 an effectively bolstered lowbie that puts up a good fight, or even kills you, and you come back (say if they are gaurding a bo), it stings to get 20rp.

I feel like people are getting hung up on me using a solo kill as an example.
I didn't use that example because I want to get more of a reward for 1v1ing level 20's or whatever. I used it because that's the highest renown yield situation you can put yourself in, so please keep that in mind.

Bad players are bad players, and in my experience not a whole lot changes with level. Certainly a decent player can do a lot more with access to more abilities and is limited by being sub 40, but I am not proposing handing out renown as if they were 40. Just not an immutable 20 renown.

Also:
2 bolstered lowbies can annihilate a level 40 just as well as anything else. It would be pretty risky to attack greater numbers, and in that situation you would be rewarded with 40 renown (where as if they dispatch you, that's hundreds/thousands of rr and exp for them for relatively low effort). That doesn't seem very fair since the lowbies aren't really risking anything (they don't even risk feeding), yet they have a very real presence on the battlefield due to bolstering. I dont really care about this. However it would make sense that you get more for killing them than a BO tick.
I kill people because they are there(or try). The rewards are just gravy.
