New Player Class advice?

Hi All,

I'm looking to play RoR for the first time. I actually played the live version when it first came out for a few months, but was unable to stick with it at that time.

I live in NA so I'm a bit worried about latency and was looking at some other player's advice, and most people suggested playing a ranged class due to this.

I want to play as either a Dwarf or Greenskin. I like to roam around and explore solo, but I also want to be a viable teammate in PvP. I'm thinking a SH or Shaman. Which would be a better pick?

For Dwarf: Engineer is a quite fun class with lots of utility to play.

For Destro, Shaman seems very strong at the moment so would probably be a good choice. I believe SH's ranged spec isn't the best at the moment.

For Order, Engineer can be fun but it may not really shine until later levels. But lots of options in that class for how you can build.

Ironbreakers do ok solo, have a lot of survivability, and you get the option to tank in RvR which is almost a free ticket to any group/warband.

Greenskins side Shaman is probably your best bet indeed.

This game punishes very quickly those who think they can play solo here. This is not SWtOR and WoW where you can just run around about anything. This is a highly grouped game and individual classes that stand out strongly in one will be very bad in another area. All of the above tips are quite applicable, except perhaps that IB is not the first candidate for a place in the group even after the fix. But he's damn good. Shamans are awesome. Squigs too. I would like to have both. Therefore, play until level 20 and find the one that suits you according to your feelings. But the main advice is to find yourself here friends.

Some classes which are great in PvE are not so good in RvR. Example: Archmage.

Engi and magus are very stationary and pet dependant, so for solo roaming as the OP said i would recomend:

Shadow Warrior - Archmage on order side
Squig Herder - Shaman on destro side

Try each class you are interested in. If you enjoy the game and wish to persue farther, join a guild as solo is fun yes but being in premade groups with coms way more enjoyable. As this game is a mmo, and most content will be grp orientated.

Be forwarned though some classes arent really wanted in some content such as engies in cities ( end game content). I just dont want you to get into your class and come to find out your class is a dime a dozon or not wanted.

Again welcome to ror, i hope you get into the game on either destro or order side. I love seeing new players comming into the game.

If solo then best dwarf solo class would be IB and for greenskins best solo would be shaman.

Out of these 2 shaman is better for solo roaming.

Both find place in smallscale pvp / pve groups. When it comes to large pvp i feel shamans are more welcomed but order needs tanks so mostly they are not picky.

If You dont mind playng rDPS I would pick Shamans cuz they are more overtuned right now and pretty much get uncontested in lakes.
