its an inordinate amount of power 1 person has over 300+ peoples' night. cannons being able to tag doors was a "not game breaking" issue but has also been patched as it is not in the spirit of the game.

if the devs never change the oil issue then i certainly wont quit. but doing so does reward organised play and disincentivize going solo, so i would be interested in seeing it implemented.

Removing the rewards for oil kills sounds like a good idea. That way it's purely a strategic weapon for the defense of the keep.

While making it so that only the guild that claims a keep sounds like a good idea, it can invite a lot of headache on its own.

oil can make or break a defence by killing upwards of 50 people at once

The community could find a way to educate on the proper usage of siege equipments. I used to play during live but have forgotten most aspects of the game. Searching online for guides also shows very limited info. Nowadays I just hang back in warbands to watch how things work partly due to fear of messing things up and waiting for orders from leaders. Other than that, no clue on what to do during keep seiges.

If you're hesitant what to do with siege equipment, ask. Sure there are a few that will be dicks, but more often than not, players will be willing to give you a basic explanation of what to do with each.

i have tried. The only reply you ever get for trying to teach ppl who early pop oil is dont tell me what to do and i can do whatever i want. Even when you tell them they can get way more kills if they pop it at the right time or when an organized wb asks them to pop it they dont listen.

This. Times a million. Ive been beating my head against people who throw oil early for months and 95% of the time i get this reply. To the people saying "you just need to educate," it simply really isnt enough because the majority of players don't care. Ive literally been told by someone who I've attempted to educate that "why would i wait to place oil for a POSSIBLE 50+ kills when i have a garunteed 5 or so kills right here. Im not waiting for possible kills when i have garunteed kills." I thought for a while that increasing cost of oil or renown to purchase, or even bringing back realm captains and only they can place the oil, but all of these things can and will break down over time. This is probably the best way to stop this issue, simply take away the xp and rr from oil kills. Oil is so important in sieges, it should be used correctly. Education at this point in the game is pointless, people do not care.

To follow the idea about oil only spawnable by the guild who has claimed, isnt that close to matching how rams work(?). You need to be in a guild to even spam a ram, unless that was changed.

Requirements idea:
- Ram can only be spawned if a person is in a high enough level guild (to prevent random crossrealm sabotage)
- Oil no longer gives rewards from kills (can this even be coded?) To prevent the selfish playstyle of fighting to place it and at the cost of strategy.
- Oil can potentially only be placed by members of the guildclaimed guild

From here on we are entering entire overhaul territory but having then all zones open at once for more guilds to being involved and claiming keeps, and tieing number of keepclaims to opening Lotd could be a version of orvr campaign. Fortress lords would be massively buffed for each zonekeep a realm holds, so tecnically a dominating realm can try to attack a fortress whenever they want if they feel like they have the numbers to match the current buff on the lord based on how many keeps they have flipped.
Zonelock bags then happends when a keep is taken, and Battleopjectives just need to be implimented in a fun way, maybe just serving same way in each zone as the keeplords buff the fortress lords in each pairing. Just a showerthourght

Its a double edged sword.. i can count many keeps that have been saved by small independent groups or even individuals turning the entire fight by getting up on outer oil after the enemy got into inner, and managed to kill large inc enemy reinforcements as well as the enemies on inner who try to push out to stop or getting lured out by inc defenders.. causing enough chaos to allow the defenders to push and reclaim keep.
If only guilds claiming the keep can use oil, you would severly handicap defenses, unless you believe playing prowess is magcially infused in guilds by claiming a keep.
