So all this talk about guard and such going on in the other thread, got me thinking about tanks and where they stand in general and how some tanks are considered underperforming due to a lack of certain 'core' mechanics. From what I've read an heard tanks are considered to have 3 core mechanics. the Guard, the Taunt, and the Punt. While the first two are the same throughout tank classes the third one is not. So I have an idea to help fix this issue.
Part One: Unify the Punt
This part would be making the punt a generic ability like guard or taunt. The distance would be the same as an un-tactic'd Chosen/KoTBS punt.
Punt (Or whatever fancy name it has)
Cost: 30AP
CD: 15s
Inflicts X damage and knocks target player away.
This is to bring BO/SM in line with everyone else (replacing their AoE punt and removing the stance requirement) and basically giving every tank access to the same base ability.
Part Two: Tactics of Different Flavors
Basically giving everyone the KotBS / Chosen tactic treatment. Taking the current punt and changing it into a tactic that modifies the 'generic' punt function like the original punt. This way classes with good punts like BG can still superpunt at the cost of a tactic slot. Something like this for each tactic:
Chosen/KotBS: Superpunt, CDR with 2h weapon
BG: Distance Scaling with Hate (maybe a scaling damage bonus too)
SM: AoE Punt, Spirit Damage
BO: AoE Punt, -STR
Ironbreaker I'd like to see get something fresh since their current one I feel is unappealing. Something scaling off of grudge, maybe a DoT or reduced chance to be defended against. I feel like SM/BO's tactic should be redone but I am not sure if they'd want to remove the AoE Punt entirely.
Yes this is roundabout as hell, but the idea was to give every tank an even 'base' playing field when it comes to core mechanics while still allowing for variety via a tactic slot.
Or, you know, just give SM/BO a ST punt.

Re: The Terrible Punt Idea
No better this, give punt ability to all dps classes

Re: The Terrible Punt Idea
Aoe Taunt?First time i heard of an aoe taunt.U know taunt and challenge are 2 different things with different effects?Simply remove the aoe punt from bo/sm and give em a single punt one. That aoe punt is useless anyway excpet for maybe 1 or 2 occasion when u can punt somehow people in lava or down walls.Single target punt with better range would be far more usefull .

Grumm /a.k.a Grumug- RR87 Bo - Retired since 2021
Argrimm - RR82 Chosen
Skarzig - RR85 Dps Shaman
Ashein - RR80 Zdps
Hateme - RR78 Bg
Grumbrindal - RR79 Ib
Argrim - RR81 Wp
Parabellum - RR81 Wh
Ashayn - RR76 Sw

I meant AoE Punt, I cant type. Thanks for catching that. I did/do not want to alter Taunt or Challenge in any way in this. Corrected the first post.

Re: The Terrible Punt Idea
Tank itemization royally scrwed over the balance in this regard due to funky parry values and other issues, but BO/SM worked by providing higher pressure instead of a punt. It's a sideways leap in group playstyle capitalizing more on constant higher pressure to bruteforce kills through slight enemy mistakes and making enemy offense weaker as outgoing pressure alleviates incoming pressure.
What needs fixing is tank endgame gear, not the tank classes.

Re: The Terrible Punt Idea
Yeah tanks need to get actually good stats on their endgame gear and not random +2ap +1 morale.what63 wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 2:14 pm Tank itemization royally scrwed over the balance in this regard due to funky parry values and other issues, but BO/SM worked by providing higher pressure instead of a punt. Sometimes I wonder if we are playing the same game.Grious wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 1:06 pm So all this talk about guard and such going on in the other thread, got me thinking about tanks and where they stand in general and how some tanks are considered underperforming due to a lack of certain 'core' mechanics.
The underperfoming tanks are probably the reason why everyone is rolling one...

Re: The Terrible Punt Idea
I was mainly referring to how people feel about SM/BOs lack of a decent punt / viability in small scale and yes I know this game isn't based around 6v6. But I really want to get it out of the hands of people who spam it on CD and just give out free immunities so I cant punt away key targets when I need to.Justina wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 2:26 pmSometimes I wonder if we are playing the same game.Grious wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 1:06 pm So all this talk about guard and such going on in the other thread, got me thinking about tanks and where they stand in general and how some tanks are considered underperforming due to a lack of certain 'core' mechanics.

Re: The Terrible Punt Idea
BO ST punt - yes but as a tactic slot.
2H SM (snb alredy has) - tact slot + remove WotDS (no idea why this skill exist like SL rampage).
SM get everything on this server. Even chosen CS (ofc on chosen is too op:)).
Generally buff snb tanks CC. All hard CC last 1 sec longer and cd on super punt 10 sec like before nerf.

Re: The Terrible Punt Idea
I do not see a reason why punts should not be unified. Some tanks like IB/SM/BO are crippled because of their terrible short single target punt (IB) or lack thereof (SM/BO except that shield bollocks punt), while other classes with long punts (KOTBS/CHOSEN and BG) are overperfoming. Punting the enemy guard is the #1 tool used to be able to get kills in a smallscale fight against competent people and it makes absolutely no sense that some classes are better at it.
