If you donate money for a specific purpose, you have to trust the "money receiver", that he spends it excactly and completely for that purpose.
So the RoR devs would have to accept the donations and need to spend it on the donation purpose, as you can't transfer money to a "thing" (server).

But this is completely irrelevant, as afaik this project can't generate any money at all.
Any EA/GW lawyer would just argue, that the devs received money for it (regardless what it is spend for) and at this point you most likely would have to fight for it on court (won't happen).
As I said, don't give it to the developers. Create a community body which run the private server separate from the developers themselves. Then allow them (the community admin group, set up a donation system to fund the private server. It would be a completely separate entity from the developers. And as long as you keep all transactions documented ect to prove developers are not receiving any money. I don't see the problem.

On a scale of 1-10, how legal do you think operating this project is?

Well theres legal and illegal.

This is illegal. The server code written by the devs is their work.

But us connecting to it breaks the tos we all agreed to and all the content, quests items etc. thats mythics work so illegal.

If the devs wanted to keep it totally legal they would have to write every quest and make every item anew themselves. So that might be finished sometime in 2035 maybe.

The project exists because it hasn't yet been shut down.

The owners of the IP have every right to shut it down. They do not need a reason to do this.

If they see any money coming into this project, or anything associated with it (like our server hosts) because of people who intend to support the project, what do you think they will do? Verify our transactions (thus providing tacit support for what we do)? Or shut us down?

It's pointless even to discuss this, because our policy is set in stone.

Its having everyone in a single t2 zone at once. In massive zergs. Even the live game used to **** its pants at launch when 300 people were in the same place. Also that only dbs give renown means everyone groups up and zergs.

It's not generally having 200 odd people in the T2 area which causes lag (which there generally is not, I'd say there's at most 2/3's of the pop in T2 whilst the rest are in T1). Its generally groups of around 20-30 people casting lots of spells together within a small area causing massive lag spikes, and in some cases crashing the server once or twice within the past 2-3 days.

I read in another Thread somewhere that the Problem is with the Emulator, Causing this Lag to happen. Not necessarily the Server Provider or Host.
