Keep the pet always close to you and avoid the melee ball. Some good ST WL know how to keep their pet alive in cities against AoE parties. Of course at some point, the pet is going to die, but not that often if the WL know how to position himself (flanking and dodging the melee ball).

Golden age of RoR<3 Back then WL pet got grp buffs/heals/basically all grp gets but not guard and pet worked much better than now (how?) There were actually new specs and skills which were tried and for some reason all that got scratched and they reverted WL back to 1.4.8. which would be BIG improvement on WL now. But even Looking That Beastmaster which is just WL but looking different and dare i say SO MUCH BETTER, just that spear alone i mean ah<3 And there is animations for this stuff ready it seems like?

Guarded lion? No no, I propose a new skill for WL. It's called "Meow!". Then a countdown to 3 starts. The countdown will be to 3, no more no less. 3 will be the number for the countdown. 4 will not be counted, and neither will be 2 except when you will then proceed to 3. 5 is right out. Once the number 3, being the 3rd number has been reached, the lion feistily meows and transforms into a pocket slayer which will then proceed to smite your enemies.
