I don’t RP, but I do like to make up backstories for my characters to get more immersed. Does your character have to be part of that race’s main group? Like, the greenskins are from the Bloody Sun Boyz. Does my Black Orc have to be a Bloody Sun or want to be a Bloody Sun, or can I say he just joined up with em to be in a good fight?

Same with Chaos, you’re supposed to be part of The Raven Host, a Warband dedicated to Tzeentch. But like, Tzeentch is probably my least favorite Chaos God. If I make a Chaos character, does he have to be a follower of Tzeentch, or could I again say he joined them as a mercenary or to fight or whatever?
I know most people probably don’t care too much about this, but as someone who just started playing and picked the game up for the lore and seeing any help you can give is welcome!
Do you have to be from your race’s group?

no, you don't have to follow default sub-realm faction.
game doesn't care if you follow default sub-faction or not anyway.

Orc mobs join bigger mobs, so you can happily say that you're from a different mob/tribe that's allied itself with the bloody sun Boyz. That's easy roleplay right there.cristineg wrote: Sat Apr 09, 2022 7:21 am I don’t RP, but I do like to make up backstories for my characters to get more immersed. The chaos one is a bit trickier as everything looks very Tzeentchian - the armour, the abilities, the summoned daemons, etc, rather than being generic chaos or a different god. How you spin being a Chosen of Tzeentch (one of the most devout followers who has been rewarded greatly) without being a follower of Tzeentch will require some creative thinking. The lower level armour sets usually look more generic and can be seen in the appearance guide, so using their appearance might help sell the RP rather than looking like a mutated bird man.
You can use the low level appearances with high level armour so you can still play with good stats.

Re: Do you have to be from your race’s group?
Heavily depends, there are whole armor sets for marauder with khorne/undivided aesthethics, you can work around chosens with paints and picking specific armors, zealots are more or less fine as long as they dont go for bird beak cowls and magi are only tzeentchian. aside from chaos you either dont have distinct groups (dwarfs, most emp) or its about dyes anyway (elves). I could probably think of some particularly hard to pull off options (wood elf SW, bretonnian knight) but on the lore level all factions can be justified in having non native members-though in case of druchii were talking lots of backstabbing.
RoR doesnt deserve being taken seriously.
