General questions about gear/armor

I’ve been out of the loop for a while, I was looking at the armor merchants and I was wondering, for a solo player without guild, what would be the best route to get the best gear? I have seen people talking about some kind of pve armor but not sure.

The last time I just did rvr and kept upgrading armor with the tokens I was getting. Is this enough? I also have seen you require some kind of “ward” for each armor set piece, where do you get this?

Basically I want to know if it’s possible to get good gear without any pve and just doing rvr.

(By solo player I mean I will join pug warbands, not roam solo)

You can do only pvp ,but you are better off doing pve dungeons for gear and ward unlocks so once you get to 70+rr you got saved up warcrests for BiS gear right away .
