What kind of toxic behavior does it create?

As an occasional PUG leader, Autoband helps me a lot and haven't noticed any toxic behavior. Blame the leaders for setting up options that annoy you. The only things I've noticed are people getting kicked by range (is annoying) or people not being allowed in an 8/8/8 WB because your role is already filled (also annoying but understandable). I suggest two things, don't group with WB leaders that use options you don't like and/or create a WB yourself.

I definitely don't want a closed WB, people jump in and out of a PUG WB all of the time, it's enough of a burden to make sure group composition makes sense. I do not want to handle invites as well. This is one of many reasons most leaders would just prefer to run small 6-12 WB with guildies only.

Regarding 8/8/8, I enforce only 1 tank, 1 healer, 1 DPS per group. You can get some really weird compositions, even with that. Sometimes too many tanks (we had to slot healing tactics). And then in the same WB we had too many healers (one group had 4 healers). I've never had too many DPS so far. It's all good and makes for interesting game play, but it definitely makes things harder. Some like it more optimal and cookie cutter, which is fine, it's easier that way.

That's the WB leader's fault. There is an option to kick, which by default, is off. I agree, it shouldn't be used and causes issues! There is also an option to message players (I use this), which is off by default.

If you don't like the WB leader's options, tell them and explain why. And if they don't change, go with a different WB leader or make your own. If other people are annoyed too, they will join.

I have on my warband leader helper "all welcome no autoband kick" I usually get filled in less than 5 minutes. The people with auto kick on, I will not join them. I would argue a large percentage of the player base hates the kick function. now the auto organize is nice, and I do have the add on installed for that reason only.

I believe that Autoband should definitely remain in the game, perhaps even be included in the client, like SoR. It is an excellent management tool, without which effective warband management is difficult.
As for the issue of "toxicity," it's simple: my warband is my rules. If you don't like it, make your own, play as you wish.
As the leader of the warband, I spend a lot of time and effort, so I want to receive a well-coordinated team game in return, which will lead us to victory. But you're suggesting that I waste everything, lose all the time, just because someone decided to have fun and play an alt in T4.

the only problem with auto band is that auto kick is always on by default. should probably be other way around

I feel that is the major reason why many players are turned off by warbands and perhaps even guilds, it seems very insular and isolated from casual gameplay, even if it is the main part of the game. Speaking from personal experience, it is annoying when you get kicked for being the 13th DPS career or the leader wants to have guild mates in the warband, but I understand.

In short, I agree that, while annoying, autoband is needed in certain situations. At best, it's great for optimizing and leading a push against a larger force, at worst it continues to enforce a slight alienation of newer/casual players (like me). That's how I see it, anyways.

I think I turned it off by default when I uploaded 0.9.3 now in the beginning of january, where also I made the Guild Priority thing toggable (and off by default, that thing annoyed the hell out of me) and where I added the possibility to have a lower level req for healer-archetypes. So I think you both are right.
