About Name Reservation system

I browsed through the recent posts and didn't find any related to this specific part of the latest patch, so here's my few cents.

I understand that being on a single server, name reservation is a sensible topic. However, I think the whole thing should be rethought. It was already annoying with the previous 1 year rule, but 6 month is way too short, even with the scaling reknown grace period.

Alot of people on RoR are veterans from live servers, they are not and won't be full time RoR players, but rather come and go. As for myself, I almost always come back to RoR for a few weeks / couple months every year. My character names are names that carried over from the live servers, I am deeply attached to them and I would probably just quit coming back if their identity is lost.

I understand that it can be annoying to have names locked on low level characters that are never played, or characters that were created once to test the game, but on the other side, characters who have history, reached lvl 40 and a decent amount of RR shouldn't be allowed to lose their identity.

In my opinion, the fair way to handle this is :
- Any low lvl character (lvl39-) that was not played in the last 6 months can be freely renamed.
- Any lvl 40 character who is bellow RR 60/70 can be subjected to the current rule, assuming an email is automatically sent to them when their grace period is about to end.
- RR 70+ characters should be protected from any rename.

Alternatively, live server allowed the use of special characters in names (é / è / ê and so on), bringing this back would allow people who really want a specific name to get it without stealing someone's.

I agree with you, would be better something like;

6 months for 1 / 39
1 year 40+
2 years 80+

Yet it's nice to have this feature and the .changename for free
Special characters in names isn't such a good idea imo,
Considering Cyrillic / Scandinavian and so many others alphabets, would just be annoying to find the unicode

I've been trying to snag the name Potato for like 3 years while it's been camped on a level 1 BG

Hard disagree

- Name Reservation System Updated – Character names have always been individually assigned, not account-bound. To retain a character's name, you must log into that character at least once every 6 months. After 6 months, an additional grace period of 5 days per Renown Rank applies before the name is released.
Reading over about the period grace, it's actually not that bad ;
If you are rr 40 it takes around 1 year, rr80 would be 19 months
Maybe 10 days per Renown would be more fair
Some rr80+ may never play again so might be better not to lock names forever
Yet still agree to make it longer for high renown
Meanwhile it's super fun to find so many vacant names
Like if anyone want to be spiderman it's available
Found so many cool names that I had to delete lots of popular nick like sonic (now it's a lvl 2 wh...)

Hard disagree
I think topic was only to prevent renames for high renown players
As for low level 1 campers, 6 months is more than enough for sure, sad that some will just relog to keep it.

I like the idea of a tiered name change design.
6 months for 1 / 39
1 year 40+
2 years 80+
sounds great if it can be implemented easily

1 year to 19 months is a bit of a long time, it would be nice if those are the numbers that maintain this glory.
Sonic is still something that has value to leave behind.

it is not that hard to log in every few months if you value your name that much
Order: 80 AM / 77 RP/ 75 Knight
Destro: 82 Sham / 80 Zealot/ 80 DoK

Pretty much what I do, 5 min login every month or two to check on mail and it preserves my names. It's easy.
