Hmm..my 2nd post on this wonderful site!
I voted for a wipe because:
1.I am still downloading the game, lol
2.I want a game to be more polished
3.New stuff is good stuff
4.BETA version is clearly better than the ALPHA version of the game

Re: Cleaning everything for a BETA phase
I would call this alpha stage because new content is being added. When all the content is finished the game would then move to beta testing stage where all the content would be checked for bugs. Devs can do a wipe whenever they feel necessary but since we would be going from a public alpha to public beta I don't see the need for it.
This whole thing is silly, we are years away from going from alpha to beta phase. I would say if you want to play beta check back in 2017.

Re: Cleaning everything for a BETA phase
I've played this game since alpha (live) and no other game exists in my world. I've been playing RoR since the early days when I was the only one logged on at night EST for hours on end -- until one of my buddies like Archmage (the Archmage named Archmage) would log on and keep me company. This game, in some way, has been a great outlet for the better part of eight years and I'm beyond grateful to those who brought it back.
I believe alpha/live was 2007. That was a loooooong time ago. I worked a 40-hour-a-week job then, and couldn't wait to get home and blow up Order/Destro -- whatever the opposing flavor of the day. I played throughout the weekend. Those were the days! Flash forward to (almost) 2016, and I'm married with a little one on the way. I work close to 80 hours a week because that's what the business requires. Life is good and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
That said, I'd like to have my cake and eat it, too. If there's a character wipe, going through the arduous grind yet AGAIN would have limited appeal to me, regardless of how much I love RoR. I might be wrong (I obviously don't have stats to back this up) but I'm guessing the average age of players on RoR is substantially higher than it was on live. Many of the diehards who were in school likely have intense jobs and/or families, too, and don't have as much time to play as they once did. Again, this is just a guess, but I believe it's a logical one.
I can't say "no way," but if there is a character wipe, I would really have to weigh whether it's worth starting all over again, given my RL commitments. I would love to be able to hop on for 10-12 hours each weekend and slam SCs -- Not grind and farm as I've done countless times before.
Whatever the verdict, I'll accept and support it because this project is about the community, not an individual. I have faith in the devs and am sure they will make the right decision for the masses.

Re: Cleaning everything for a BETA phase
I don't see the upside of deleting everybody. I can understand wiping gold / items as a necessary evil to purge the consequences of bugs and exploits. But characters?
There's no need to wipe characters, because:
- We are not in a closed alpha, nor we'll be in a closed beta. We are not going to affect just some small percent of playerbase of a still to be released MMORPG. We are wiping live players who have grown affectioned to their characters for years.
- Naked characters cannot be filled with exploited stuff or cheated in some way.
- We don't have any "surprise factor". We already know how characters look like, how the character editor works, how to level up. These are awesome new things to be discovered when releasing a new MMO... but RoR is hardly new.
- The business model is just not here. WAR creators earned more subscriptions money if players played longer. RoR creators actually won't get a dime if they make our playtime longer.
- Actually, if you wipe everybody, the next day we'll have a thousand+ people scrambling and trying to play 24/7 to re-level back fast and be able to play with their teams again. This is only going to create server downtimes and lag for everybody.
- Character names and account names became known. Delete everybody and you can be sure (it happened in other MMOs) that somebody SHALL take somebody else's name (expecially if he's a famous player) and this will just create needless drama, ticket, petitions.
- Learning that we are going to get wiped, is going to make people leave well before the wipe itself. Who cares to play and test the last alpha month(s), when they know their time in game is going to be lost?

Re: Cleaning everything for a BETA phase
definitely shouldnt be a character wipe until after beta is over.
