Well, sometimes damage didn't take you out of combat ALL the time, just like, 8 or 9 times out of 10. I mainly attribute that luck to lag, or a touchy mechanic. Maybe it was supposed to have a 'chance', but 90% of the time you got knocked out.

I can tell you though 100% of the time I put pit of shades down on live, I popped WH's out. Every time I used infernal wave, a 65 foot frontal cone, i knocked them out. This was nightly, and never missed. In SC's, whenever I saw someone stealth that I know is bad, I just started spamming m2 shattered shadows at my target instead of dots, because I knew the AOE will pop him/her out.

Here ya go, patch 1.2 3/3/2009

* Shadow Prowler: This ability will now always be interrupted when the player is attacked.
Word of Pain and Boiling Blood are no longer able to proc anything. The Bright Wizard College has confirmed this is a big deal. (stealth nerf)

I'm glad I have google to defend the constant requests for changes. Someone's gotta do it.

I remember on live aoe would knock you out of stealth it wasn't instant but a few hits you would get knocked out. Can't do much about the los atm because squig pets can hit through the wall and prevent us from using stealth.

I know what it means.

To sum up what Azarael said, did you think it means someone targets your invisible character and casts an attack? Or could it possibly mean damage.? Hint, it's damage.

The stealth cast is interrupted, when damage is recieved. You don't destealth simply by receiving damage.
You have to lose init check and then receive damage to become visible.
Dying is no option.
