Old Stabbin' for Squig Herders.

Post#1 » Thu Jun 30, 2016 2:05 am

I know we aren't talking about gameplay balance yet, and I don't intend to. I just wanted to make a suggestion early enough it may actually be considered :). So the topic is Path of Stabbin, the least used squigherder tree, but surprisingly this wasn't always the case. I started playing in early Beta, Path of Stabbin was my first spec, and it was epic. The way it differed from Live is the Horned Squig was in the Stabbin Tree, and Gas Squig was in the Big Shooting tree. And there was no Battle Squig armor (There was. but it was a defensive cooldown). Back then, Stabbin was a glass cannon, and there was a lot of squggies who loved it.

Path of Stabbin was a really fun, hit and run, guerilla tactic type spec for Squigherders. Then the trailer Launch came, and literally the next day they changed it to what it is now. A lot of Stabbin Herders like myself were upset, but we were such a small part of the userbase and Mythic didn't really listen to players. So Stabbin path just fell to being meh and forces you to use the Battle Squig armor.

I don't know if anything can be done to turn back to the original abilities, nor do I remember their exact versions, I know Badgas and Indegestion was there but went off your pet, and Bouncing was a single target ability like Swift Strikes named something like Bounce 'n Stab, single target for you, but an AoE channel for your pet. But if it is possible to do anything with the skill line, could we switch back Gas Squig and Horned Squig to the correct trees? It never made sense they were moved. As the Gas squig gets its benefits from Bal and WS, but in Stabbin' if you wouldn't be stacking that. And the Horned Squig gets its bonus from Str and Tough, but its abilities rank up in the Shooting tree, and if your not in the battle squig armor your horned squig will die in two seconds.

tldr;

Make Stabbin path great again, (gameplay wise)

Switch Horned Squig and Gas Squig

Revert to old abilities, if possible. ( I don't expect it to happen, but I can dream can't I? XD)

Most of the SH at launch was crap but one tactic in the stabbin tree looks like it was awesome once, it was sneaky stabbin and while it now gives a 15% damage boost if close to target it did give all melee abilities a 25% chance to ignore 100% of an enemies armour which would have been epic.
This was before Launch, they changed it when they launched the cinematic trailer. I do remember Sneaky Stabbin tactic though. A lot of stuff for SH was different then.

August was when it changed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKOhzfkCdbY

I remember it because the big patch before launch they also released this cinematic trailer on the same day.

I remember that tactic. In theory it sounded good but in reality is was pretty crap :lol: Most of what the SH was in the first year was just a class for trolls. It didn't do that good of damage, single target or AoE, especially in the meta that was dominated by PBAoE and Group heals. Now the meta is dominated by melee trains and the squig melee spec is crap compared to all mdps (expect maybe magus :D)

I'm going to dig thru my old drive to see if I still have any pictures from Closed Beta. The only old reference I can find online is the old Chinese version of the closed beta wiki from 2007, where it references gas squig as long range spec, and Horned Squig as melee spec. http://zh-tw.warhammeronline.wikia.com/ ... 7%E8%80%85

oh noes. Not really into more mirror pushing. You have charge in the form of run away ability.

I'm not pushing towards mirroring at all, I only used Swift Strikes as a reference because its a channeled ability.

It seems I'm the only one that remembers those days of Sneaky Gits ambushing players with their Horned Squigs :(

EDIT: I found a blog that reviewed the old Stabbin tree in beta!! I'm not crazy! http://warhammercheats.blogspot.com/200 ... eview.html
