Some unfortunate events in the past months have lead me to moving homes. I now have no way of getting high speed internet where I live and am stuck with Satellite. I live in the US and will have high ping either way, but with satellite I feel it will make it so much worse.
Anyone else from the US that plays with satellite internet and still do decent in RvR?

Re: RoR with satellite internet?
I dont live in the US but i do sleep many times high in the mountain where the only chance of gettin' internet is via Satellite.
The result is that i cant go lower from 700ms wich is almost a full second delay ( crazy and frustrating ) so i never do SC's and RvR due to that when i'm on mountain. Just farming/crafting/pve and pvp in Tier1 for the lulz.
Also i need to use a VPN to see the server, but have to turn it off to join the server ( then have like 30 secs, if dont hurry i've to repeat whole process )...
My question for you is... you cant get a cheap 3G/4G connection? it will be much better for playing than Sat ( wish i could install it on home )

That might just do the trick. I will see what I can find, thanks!

Re: RoR with satellite internet?
I live way out in the country of Oklahoma. I had satellite internet as a kid and it was awful. I have it again because of where we choose to live. But I'll say it's honestly not bad now a days (no delay like old times at least with our service). I am able to play daoc/Warhammer pretty easily.Garner wrote:Some unfortunate events in the past months have lead me to moving homes. It also depends on what speed you will be getting. When we were on the lowest due to only available options it was rough. Some days would be fine (if you are only one on it) other days we used our cell phone wifi spot because it was so bad, daoc surprisingly didn't use much data not sure about war.
Not sure if I helped but has been my experience.

Re: RoR with satellite internet?
I will see about setting up one of those hotspots. Should lower my ping by quiet a bit.
Re: RoR with satellite internet?
If you are going to rely upon a 4G connection to game for the next year or so, I suggest you look into a quality 4G mobile router like the Cradlepoint IBR600. It uses the 4G sim card (verizon, sprint, or AT&T) and is configurable like a standard switch. If you are not IT savvy, you may want to read up on their devices. You will be spending a fair amount of money on the hardware, but you will see much better connectivity and speeds with a CradlePoint than with the cellular carrier's cheap MiFi hotspot.Garner wrote:I will see about setting up one of those hotspots. I work with police and fire in remote areas that depend upon 4G for data. I sell the CradlePoint devices and external antennas to them. If you are super serious, you could even get an external antenna to mount outside to improve the 4G cell connectivity - an option not available on a consumer grade mifi device. Also, the consumer MiFi wireless devices do not allow you to hard-connect with cat5/6 cable like the cradlepoint does. This will also help speed up your ping and enjoyment.
If you're going to spend time on the game, may as well make it worthwhile. Here are some links for you to check out. Yes it's about 10x the price of a cheap-o mifi, but anything worth doing is worth doing right IMO.

PM me if you have any questions. This is the solution I would use if I were in your situation and had to game.
Re: RoR with satellite internet?
I use 2 bars of 4g LTE, I think I get anywhere from 80-150 ping. Which is better than my old landline ping wise from eastern US. Just using pda net usb connection.

Re: RoR with satellite internet?
I tried 4G with an external antenna, can get up to 3 bars wich is more than enough for playing but the problem is low stability because the bars goes down and up all the time.
Should try with a better antenna? The mountains are blocking the repeater signal is what i'm thinking.
Anyway... i think i would be a total hermit if i had quality internet xD better not

Re: RoR with satellite internet?
Can you link the 4G radio or router you used as well as the antenna? I may be able to give you some insight. If the antenna is not MIMO, your stability will be less than desireable for any gaming or heavy packet streaming.charlysixb wrote:I tried 4G with an external antenna, can get up to 3 bars wich is more than enough for playing but the problem is low stability because the bars goes down and up all the time.

Re: RoR with satellite internet?
I ended up using my Phone's hotspot to play and so far it has been working pretty good. I have a ping spike every now and again, but nothing too major to complain about.
@Luuca I wish I would have posted on these forums when I first moved. I would have definitely bought what you linked. We ended up wasting money on a satellite provider. Maybe some time down the road we will looking into getting one.
