Hi
Currently one of the bigger causes of first time players having troubles getting into ror is that the launcher crashes when the contents of the directory are write protected with a cryptic error log displayed.
This normally would not be something to check for as it usually needs manual effort to set that flag, but ror is different in this respect.
The game is downloaded via a right protected source so there is a manual step (often missed) to remove this flag and the game is sometimes loaded into windows programs files area where windows automatically write protects things.
Suggestion:
Before starting to update files check if write protected and then warn user with a message box saying “game directory write protected” and suggestion on solution ie remove write protect flag or move to a different directory
Note: some use admin account to run game so write protect check should check that the files can not be updated by current user not just write protected
Launcher to check for write protect
